probably never reach them.

Good for you that you're helping the community.  My take is it's hard to ask someone else to collect money for your goal if they don't have direct experience or conviction with the needs of that organization or those kids.

I also volunteer in the YMCA in Northampton for grieving children in family.  I would prefer to do something directly related to the people in needs rather than collecting money from other people for a purpose which I'm not too familiar with.  Just my 2 cents.
