I think China will walk a different democratic path as western countries. We should be able to see it before we die.

I completely agree that single-party monoply won't be able to manage a long last and fast developing China. The key point is: we have to seek a new way out instead of multi-party system if this is what implied.

Democracy, by its precise definition, is just as bad as the Dictatorship. Moreover, direct election democracy is just a form of dictatorship instead of democracy because the public can only choose one of the elite few "representers" and their "policy packages". I really think this way is a disaster and only leads for world wars, not sustainable.

IMHO, the things China needs in immediate urgency would be: political transparency, procedure regulations and public involvements. For the first and second issue, the central government and party leaders are in deep conflicts with the local government and party cadres. Things are moving, but will take costs. The third is not showing up yet. Although the laws are there, still very very few people went to the 人大 or 政协 to audit the topic discussions. People can not lay there and hope one day the opinions would be represented. This might take 10 or more years for the public common knowledge to spread. None of the above urgent items has business to do with democracy.

btw> I would recommend the following video, to see how the former Singapore UN ambassador looks China and the politics.

Personally I favor a power-over political system instead of a disordered bottom up "democracy "
I discuzed a lot with my classmates about the word power. It's a shame many of them only see this word very negatively or simply equate it to oppression.

"too simple, sometimes naive" heh

I think Singapore serves an example of such a good "dictatorship" in a way, but it's way too small in size for China to draw a lot of experience from...

Obviously, the quality of the Chinese population need to get on a high level through education, the "variance" of the population quality is too large, but speaking of education, there is just such a significant shortage of money and resource...

This happened to a lot of people.

I understand what happened to your family probably was one of the worst cases, and CCP is the one to take the strike. On the other hand though, I don't see the 5/4 rally is up for CCP, and I personally believe it's for the sake of greater good, - justice, Olympics... - and I'M SURE, that a lot of people here also hope for more freedom and human rights in China, today and tomorrow.

[quote]原帖由 zuri 于 2008-5-1 03:11 PM 发表
