Time to buy eyeglasses - GEO vision plan rocks!

For those who enrolled the dental and vision plan before deadline - Oct 10, you should receive an email from Jeremy Brown that you can utilize the service starting Nov 1.  

In case you don't receive the vision/dental package from GEO, you can either stop by the office or go to [url]www.geouaw.org[/url] and click the tooth icon which will direct you to all information.  

Pls note that you can go to different providers for eye examination (not necessarily UHS).  Just be careful to find providers within the network.  

It's our first time having the vision plan, so let's be careful and enjoy a new pair of glasses and contact lens!:guzhang

I'm going to Holyoke Mall this Sat to buy eyeglasses, and Andrew is having eye exam as well.  Anyone wants to join?

Just kidding.  You can go [url]www.geouaw.org[/url] and click the tooth icon to enroll online, and then return the signed form to GEO office.  However, your start day is gonna be later than Nov1.

Almost.  EyeMed Vision will pay the first $100.00 for frames. If your frames cost more than $100.00, EyeMed will cover 20% of the additional cost. If, for example, your frames cost $200.00, you would have to pay $80.00 for them.

For lens, different kind come up with different copayment, ranging from $15-65.  

For contact lens, 1st $100 also free, and then some discount afterwards.

Good for u!  I haven't received mine yet.  

Dental and Vision are provided by different companies, that's why they're not sent together.

I also plan go to Holyoke Mall next Sat to buy eyeglasses.

Could you explain in more detail how we can buy eyeglasses without receiving the vision card?  I mean how the sellers know the payment are covered by the vision insurance plan.

Your subscription no. is your SSN which you used when enrolling dental and vision plan.  Just need to tell them you're covered by Eyemed, and then they'll check u up from their database.  

If you don't have your SSN, they can still check u up by using your name.

如果enroll了，是不是只能在校医院买眼睛才有这样的discount? 如果去别的地方买呐，比如costco，还有discount嘛？

呵呵，真的很实惠的plan. 偶上个星期去eye care买的contact，$120半年的supply, 偶只付了5块钱。只要你enroll了，跟他们讲你是geo member就行了。

You need to make sure you're going to providers within EyeMed network.  

GO to [url]http://www.geouaw.org/gp/dental.html[/url] and click into the last hyperlink.  You can search providers by zip code.  

As far as I know, Costco is not within the list.

Again, as you're late, your start date will be later than Nov 1, 06.  Upon receipt of your signed waiver form, GEO will process your info asap, and you will receive an email from us afterwards to indicate your start date.

Andrew and I just got our eyeglasses and contact lens today.  Here's our experience:

For eyeglasses:
If you choose frame under $100, it's free.  
There are many lens options, as Andrew has very light perscription, he only bought the cheapest option $10.  
They may tell you that you need to add more options, like UV coating, PC, Anti-reflective...  If you add all of them, you may need to pay more than $100 just for lens.  In my opinion, PC may not be necessary if the size of your lens (depends on the shape of your frame) is not big, your lens would not be too thick.  But anti-reflective seems like more important if you need to bring eyeglasses everyday.

For contact lens,

The first $115 is free.  

And the tricky thing with this plan is:

You can EITHER have contact lens with frame OR lens with frame (typical eyeglasses).  And you only can have frame every 2 years.  

I wanted to buy sunglasses, which do not have perscription.  Kind of a one-piece thing in the shop.  So, I asked if I can use the frame allowance to buy a non-perscripted sun-glasses.  And the answer is YES!

So, I'm very happy to get some contact lens, and a nearly $100 cost sunglasses today, yeah.
