a question about the Linux and Windows system
I installed the Windows system in my laptop before. Yesterday, I installed the Suse Linux in my laptop again. However, when I try to load into the Windows system. It told me that
Windows XP could not start because of the following ARC firmware boot configuration problem: Did not properly generate ARC name for HAL and system paths. Please check the Windows NT (TM) documentation about ARC configuration options and your hardware reference manuals for additional information. Boot Failed.
I checked the disks for windows in Linux. They are OK. Therefore, it seems that it is due to the boot problem
Could you give me some suggestions?
Thanks

你的windows分区是不是很大?
arc name和boot.ini里面的不match。
try this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/119467/EN-US/ to reboot ur system with a disk
or try "fdisk /mbr" <- I m not sure abt this one.
:):)
good luck

I am not very sure. My disk C is just 25G. I think it is not very large. I install the Linux several times and it is the first time that I faced this problem

25G is large enough for windows to put sig in MRB, now your MBR is written again by ur linux boot loader.
try to use some windows disk to reboot.

I have read this one. However, the big problem is that there is no floppy driver in my laptop.

borrow a usb floppy driver. or can ur suse read ur windows partition?
u need to enter that partition to modify ur boot.ini.
or u may try fdisk /mbr (do remember use the argument /mbr). but this will remove ur linux boot loader info.

Hi, I finally solve this problem.
First, use the windows's CD to go into the Repair Console to enter the DOS. Then delete the boot.ini and use the "bootcfg /rebuild" to recreate the "boot.ini", exist the DOS and reboot your computer. Then it is OK again.
Thanks very much for aeolus's hints and Yuxi's help.

fdisk /mbr, 只是恢复mbr而已,不修改分区表,不会丢失数据,:) 不必惊慌
