OK, to answer Donkey's question --- it's the same procedure to apply for master in stats as when you apply for Umass. Fill application, get recommendation letters. GRE is not required in Stats dept here. You also don't have to submit transcript again cuz you're applying in the same school. But the application fee is nonwaivable, hehe. You probably wanna double check w/ your department or advisor and see if they're happy about this.
John Bournacorci(probably not spelled so correctly) is the graduate program advisor in Stats master program. If he likes you, you'll have no problem getting in, esp. if you tell him you don't need financial support (as far as I know they're restricting the financial support to master students and leave it for phd students). Given your strong science backgroud he'll probably like you very much, otherwise he usually wants someone who's already taken one or two classes in stats dept and got reasonably good grades (this is just my personal impression though) esp. for those who didn't have a degree in stats before.
To get the degree, you need to take 30 credits, including 6 core courses (505, 506, 607, 608, 705, 706), one final project class, and two 600-level classes either in stats dept. or w/ permission of John B, and pass the two qualify exams (probability and statistics which are pretty much based on two classes, 607 and 608).
Anyway contact John B and he'll tell you everything you want to know about this, you can also ask me if this is not clear --- sorry can't type in Chinese now... I'll msg you my cell #.
Say hello for me to Weng Jing!
